I just finished Things To Do by Nell Dixon, my very first e-book. I have to admit using Adobe PDF was a bit frustrating at first. I think I expected to be able to turn the page like a real book. Instead I had to scroll. When I increased the font size that meant scrolling left to right and up and down and my eyes were crossed pretty quickly. When I decreased the font size for two pages to fit my nose got a little too personal with the screen.
Fortunately, the book hooked me from the start. For any of you who enjoyed the tone of Bridget Jones’ Diary, you’ll really like this (it’s better). Basically, Emma has her hands full with all the crises of her family and friends, not to mention a few of her own. She’s constantly writing lists that will make you laugh even as they hit home. Like all of us, she wants to be loved and valued for who she is and it really brought a smile to my face to see her finally reach for that “gold” ring.
Set in London with a brief holiday in Spain, the story brought back memories of the four years I lived in London and the people I met who would have fit comfortably in Emma’s world. The tone is light as is the romance. The focus is on Emma as she totters from one incident to another, trying to keep it all in perspective. There’s even a dash of mystery and suspense to round the whole story out.
Nell Dixon has been shortlisted for England’s Romance Prize for her novel Marrying Max. That’s fantastic news and I’ll be rooting for her. She kept me engaged from start to finish and it doesn’t suprise me to see others recognize her talent.
I hope my next e-book is as enjoyable. I have to say that by the end I was comfortable with the small font, though I expect I’ll need a stronger eyeglass presecription next year.
So what are you reading now? What e-books do you recommend? And is there an easier way to read them?
