Shake that Bootie!

The other night on the news there was a brief segment on a disco dancing 78 year old. My oldest son looked at me and said, “Sugoi, Mamma,” which is basically, “Wow.” This Japanese senior started dancing when he was fifty years old after seeing a dance contest on TV from America.

They interviewed his wife as to what she thought and her response was she was embarrassed at first. Nobody in the neighborhood danced and look at the way he dresses, she added. Now, though, everybody is used to it (though she’s seen him dance just twice in all the years he’s been doing this). This gentleman goes to the disco at least once a week to practice hand moves and break dancing. His weak point is that he can do it for two minutes and then needs to sit down and take a breather.

I tell you, “Go Grandpa!” I want to be like that when I’m his age, living life to the absolute fullest, doing what I want to do and not caring at all if I’m supposedly too old to be doing it. I hope I’m still writing and creating fabulous characters, but even if I’m not, I’d like to think that I will be doing something else equally fulfilling. Life really is too short to be worrying about what “others” think. I want to look back on my life and say I have no regrets. That I did what I wanted to do and more.

So, what is it you’ve always wanted to do? And have you?

Yeah, I try to live without regrets and cares about the Joneses, too. It’s hard sometimes ’cause I spend more time alone than I would if I fit in better. But I’m happy with who I am; that’s what matters.

As for what I want to accomplish yet, that’s simple: I want to see my books in print with a major publisher. Or an indie; that’d be fine, too.

Yes, it’s the writing thing for me. I always wanted to to have a book published and that dream is coming true in September. But I hadn’t ever thought beyond that, and it’s obvious that my true wish was to be a writer.

That’s what my husband says, that he wants to live to 100 as active as he can then just drop dead. :)

I suspect a lot of people who visit this blog have got writing on the mind–to one day realize you have X number of books under your belt and yes, you have arrived.

    Michelle–I like your dh’s attitude.

Heh. As soon as I run down my checklist of alternate solutions to my “wish I had List” on my blog I’ll be able to say i’ve done it all! Planning a backpacking trip all over Europe REAL soon. Bought a brand new shiny map even.

I like Michelle’s husband’s attitude too! Of course I want the book published soon. But I also want to travel to a ton of places. As soon as I make those big book deals.

Hi Gabriella! You stopped by my little journal and left a comment so I thought I’d come visit.

In answer to your post, my mom, at age 50, began taking piano lessons because it was something she’d always wanted to do, no matter that all the other students were 5 year olds. That’s how I intend to live my life as well. :)

As for the Nora Roberts comment you left for me, I don’t know why I never thought to try Nora Roberts before. I haven’t read much romance over the past few years and to pick up a Nora Roberts just seemed so “trendy”, which is just snobbish and I’m glad I’m getting over that. The trilogy I’m reading is The Circle trilogy which begins with the book Morrigan’s Cross. If you give the Three Sisters trilogy a thumbs up, I’ll have to add it to my TBR list.

And I see you participate in Thursday Thirteen, so I’ll be sure to add you to my weekly TT tour! :)
