13 Reasons To Go Adopt a Pet
Thirteen Reasons to Go Adopt a Pet

On Saturday, June 9th, I will be attending a very special event near and dear to my heart. The Freeport Humane Society will be holding a Pet-A-Thon. The charity event hopes to raise awareness of dogs and cats in need of good loving homes.

I will be at the event with a table full of books for sale. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the charity organization to help with funding for food, cleaning products, facility care and veterinarian services. Also, I will be raffling off a basket full of the latest romance novels from the coolest authors!

So if you are in the New York Metro Area and are looking for love, you need look no further. Here is the website for more information FREEPORT ANIMAL SHELTER (A NO-KILL shelter)

Here are thirteen animals that will be up for adoption. (Still there are many more at the shelter)

Oh, they are all just so precious. Bless you for doing this. I wish more people would adopt pets at shelters. We have four cats, and all of them are rescues. I wish all precious cats and dogs could have loving, forever homes, and it’s people like you who are doing wonderful things to help bring that about.

    Happy TT!

I adopted my dog, Max, from a shelter! He was known as a biter, which would’ve made him awfully hard to adopt! But I have patience…and no kids…so voila! Ten years later, he’s still with me :-)

We have had 6 cats over the course of our life together … all of them came from either private home adoption or shelter adoption.

What a great way to merge the T13 meme and a good cause.

My cats are rescue cats. They are all the more precious to me because of that.

    Happy TT!

Thank you all for stopping by. I know what you mean. I wish I could adopt them all too. My mom runs the cat Motel 6. All of them are strays and they all know to go to her house for food and a home. She never turns anyone away.

Wylie and Margaret, thanks so much for the great compliments about the site.

I love your cause…this is the first time in my life I’ve been living without at least one pet, a very strange sensation…and your post here made me miss having a cat or dog. My dad died a few months ago…and I went to a friiends house recently who had three cats and all of a sudden I just picked up a cat and hugged it and realized I hadn’t grieved with a pet…and I always had my whole life, ups and downs with animal family.

Good post and it makes me count the days till I can adopt a pet…and don’t worry, I will go to an animal shelter.

I like your list so much that I put it in a special blog about TT along with 2 other TT-ers.

Hope it can help many people with doubts out there.

Hope you like it that I link you up at my blog.

Lovely TT – both my cats were from a web site that places stray or abandoned cats, one had lived on the streets for almost 6 months but was so tiny… she likes all human food, especially bread, and the other was dumped at the shelter at 4 weeks, so she missed out on some important lessons from Mum, she can’t jump, and swims in the bath, and thinks I am her mother.

    Awwww…. How can anyone resist?

Of course, the last time we tried to adopt from a shelter, we couldn’t–military families move too often, apparently. Yeah, I’m still kinda steaming about that.

One of the cats posted looks a lot like my psycho (looks from picture on blog to cat sitting beside me looking up with her tongue still sticking out) only a lot smarter:grin:.

I hope you adopt them all out! I used to foster for a no kill shelter, it’s heartbreaking how many animals don’t have real homes. :(

Thank you so much for doing this! I have three shelter babies and would not/could not love them more if they were pedigreed. This is a very important post. Thank you, thank you!

Strange as it may seem, sometimes to cheer myself up, I’ll check out animal rescue sites just to look at all the sweet faces.

I have a mixed breed dog that was being given away – her picture was tacked up on a laundromat bulletin board for me to find. What if I hadn’t needed to wash a large quilt that needed an industrial-sized washer? Anyway I did, I found her and all is right with the world.

Aww–I’ve been having kitty cravings after losing mine last year. Hmmm…wonder if I could talk my b/f into another cat…?
Thanks for the reminder that there are so many pets out there who need homes!
