I’m a space drama junkie and I’m in celestial heaven! Futuristics galore. There is nothing more satisfying to me than flying away in shuttlecraft and landing in deep space with a hunky alien who wants nothing more than to do wicked little things with my spacesuit. Read two amazing novels this past week: Starkissed by Lanette Currington & The Bond That Ties by Christine D’Abo.
Review: Starkissed by Lanette Curington
Sci-fi and romance mixed together makes for an intergalactic cocktail in Starkissed. I’m drunk on the punch of action and sexual tension right off the first page. From the beginning Ms. Currington does a fantastic job of blending humans and non-humans with brief descriptions that effectively weave the futuristic world. She does use alien language but stays away from the sauce that could make Starkissed a ridiculous brew.
All references to alcohol aside. Satrkissed is a warm, tender story that tugs at the heart.
Leith and the alien J’Qair make an unlikely pair that end up stranded on a deserted planet called paradise. And paradise it is. In the way of Blue Lagoon, the two must learn to survive on an alien planet. The attraction grows at a believable pace and the hardships they endure and the ideology they overcome make the relationship that much stronger and the brief and tasteful love scenes that much sweeter.
Strong narration and consistent POV’s make for an easy read that gives us the backstory of the characters and the planets, aliens, and events without taking the reader out of the story. Each page flows into the next effortlessly. Best of all, it was good old-fashioned romance with no extra additives of cornball Barbarella fanfare.
Review: The Bond That Ties Us by Christine D’Abo
Big, broad and blue…That’s how I like ‘em. No, not that! I meant the alien men. Don’t let the cover fool you. The Bond That Ties Us is a good piece of sci-fi; a good steamy, x-rated futuristic with a solid storyline. Christine D’Abo sets a rigorous pace in her debut Sci-fi erotica. The mystery thriller plot was right up my alley and had me on edge trying to figure out who was behind the sabotage on Colony XT7799. Haylie, the newly appointed Chief of Security gets with alien Ambassador Kamran, both are polar opposites but do find common ground in the bedroom and a few other places too. Oh, and there is a bit of bondage, enough to titillate the pallet but not overdone. The Briel male is a stuffy and proper diplomatic, no-nonesense type, which makes for naughty fun when Haylie gets a hold of him. I liked the fast pace and the wicked love scenes.
Ms. D’Abo does a lovely job of taking me into outerspace. I felt right at home in the man-made mining colony on a distant planet. Most of all, I love the whimsical characters and the fun banter between Haylie and her best friend, Dr. Sara Fergus. MS. D’Abo has a great cast of characters who I would love to see more of and get to know. Christine D’Abo’s quirky writing and band of merry men and women will keep me coming back for more.
I looking forward to the spin-off sequals, especially about Breil Security Chief Tabor and Dr. Sara Fergus. Who will be their soulmates? What is to become of the newly built colony? Can peace rein between Breil and human? What about the Ecada? So many questions?
Why do I get this feeling to go pull out some old episodes of Deep Space Nine?
I recommend Starkissed & The Bond That Ties Us. Both have a place in my heart and on my laptop. Raising my glass high and giving a toast to good sci-fi.
Sci-fi rules!

Can’t wait! Dr. Fegus is a pip. (Do people even still use that word anymore?)
That poor woman needs a break from her job. Wonder who will be her distraction;)

Thanks so much for the great review! It’s wonderful that you enjoyed Starkissed. “good old-fashioned romance” — That’s exactly what I was going for…except with a different kind of hero.
