Mea Culpas

I’ve gotten behind–Behind on Christmas cards, behind on decorations, behind on cleaning and behind on the blog. :-d

Influenza is going around and I have kids with colds. My oldest stayed home and I’m debating whether to send him to school tomorrow. Ds#2 said four kids were absent from his third grade class and three went home early with temperatures. One is confirmed with the flu. If many of the others are flu cases, they’ll probably send all the kids home. Ds#1 is showing signs of a fever. Crossing my fingers that it doesn’t worsen by morning.

I’m feeling guilty for not getting those Christmas cards in the mail. Every one expects a picture to be included. Ever try getting three boys to smile and stand still at the same time? I’d probaby have better luck with a gaggle of geese. I thought I had managed to get one decent shot and when I saw it at the photo shop, there’s blueberry jam smeared on the side of ds#2’s face. That child never stops eating. So no photo, no cards.

I’m not sure why I can’t get into the whole Christmas thing this year. It’s usually my favorite time of year. I love the season, the festivities, the warmth of family and friendships. This year it seems to be hurtling toward me and I want to scream, “Stop! I’m not ready yet.” LOL! Anybody else having that problem?

My mom and I are a bit sleep-walky as to Christmas. We’re behind on some things, on target for others. We’re being very easy about stuff like that because we’re still in a bit of shock. But we’re really appreciating our time together with family, and that feels wonderful.

I feel for you, Mom! We’ve had colds in this house for over four weeks, and dh and I haven’t shared a bed for the whole stretch, playing musical beds so the sickie can be isolated in kidlet’s room. She has loved the attention and being able to sleep in Mommy and Daddy’s bed…unfortunately, now that I finished the first round, the virus has mutated and she came down with it yesterday, beginning round 2. Aaargh! Is it too much to ask that we all be healthy on Christmas? Our anniversary was this last Sunday and we air-kissed each other in the hallway like ships in the night on our ways to separate beds. (sigh). So not feeling like spending copay money on stamps for Christmas cards.

Come see my TT for what else I gotta do before the big day.

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve got sick kids, hope it turns out not to be the flu. Have a Merry Christmas.
P.S. One year when I was a kid, all of us were sick around Christmas, and it actually turned out not so bad: we slept in, opened presents, and spent the day reading and watching movies on tv. No rush, no fuss, just us hanging together.

I’m having a surrealish Christmas too. Just can’t grasp that its almost here–and whether I’m ready or not–it is coming.
