MARCH MADNESS – MAGGIE NASH

For those who don’t know me, I’m an Aussie and I live in Sydney. So what would I know about the US Basketball season you say? Absolutely nothing! However, here in Australia, and particularly with expat Victorians (Victoria being a state of Australia), March heralds the beginning of the Aussie Rules Football season.

Now that’s a sport you can get your teeth into. It gets in your blood. When I was growing up in Melbourne, everyone ate, worked and slept football. Mondays we spent the day talking about the games on the weekend. Tuesday nights we all waited to see … Read More »

MARCH MADNESS – AURELIA FLORES

March Madness Presents Aurelia Flores

Myth, Mystery, and Romance – Oh, My!

I’m delighted to be invited to write for a blog hosted by women who write about the paranormal, romance, mystery — and with Latino themes, no less!

As a blogger, speaker and commentator on Latina leadership, motivation and possibility, it’s interesting to me what I hear and learn through listening to women’s stories.

As I interview successful Latina women, it’s remarkable to me the themes that run through their experiences — the lessons they’ve learned and the obstacles they’ve overcome.

We all enjoy stories — and hearing stories … Read More »

MARCH MADNESS – CARIDAD PINEIRO

March Madness Guest Blog – Caridad Pineiro

NY Times Best-Selling Author

I want to thank Gabriella for letting me visit with her today!
It’s been several years since we met each other at a writer’s conference and became friends.

I think that’s one of the things I love about going to conferences: Making new friends, especially since writing is normally such a solitary craft.

Whenever I go to a conference or do a talk, I make it a point to try and move out of my comfort zone to meet new people.
Sometimes we’re two ships that passed in the … Read More »

MARCH MADNESS – MARCIA JAMES

MARCH MADNESS GUEST BLOG – MARCIA JAMES

My Favorite Thirteen PR Tips
by Marcia James

There are numerous ways for authors to promote themselves before and after “The Call”, but many authors dislike PR and don’t know a lot about it. Here are some tips for new authors and suggestions for ways all authors can narrow down which promotional options are right for them.

1. Choose a pen name, Google it to make sure it’s unique, lock in your domain name, and create a website. I chose my pen name in 2001, and according to Google there were only … Read More »

March Madness starts next week!

I have to admit I am going a bit mad right now with the preperations. Have to get the chips and dip out. Not sure which to go with. Hmmm…the mini-hot dogs wrapped in a blanket or BBQ hot wings. Oh heck, why not both? Soda, beer, cheerwine? What’s your preference?

I am so excited to see what the guest are going to say. Sort of like the last 10 seconds before the game is called and the player is running down the court and takes that elusive shot and makes it as the buzzer goes off! Yup, that’s the … Read More »

Wicked Wednesday – Poe, Alanis, Sinead & Fiona

Usually I reserve this spot for hot, hunky men who make my mouth water but I figured why not include some kick ass women who just totally rock my boat. And no I don’t swing on both sides of the fence but I can appreciate beauty, especially soulfull ones. So today I bring you back to the 90′s, when women truly rocked and they didn’t need to take off their clothes or wear crazy outfits to get noticed. Their lyrics and voices were enough to make you feel passsionate. And I think they even used real instruments, not digital beats … Read More »

What the #&%@

Life has a funny way of sneaking up you… great lyrics from Alanis Morriset and truer words could not have been sung.

I find myself trying to write everyday but little things get in the way, work, kids, taxes, vacations, etc. And next thing you know that manuscript is taking longer than ever to get itself written.

Best part is when you get 100 pages into a novel and realize that something isn’t clicking. You smack your head against a wall trying to figure out what is wrong but can’t quite put your finger on it. Still I continued to … Read More »

Contests, Workshops and Reviews

Some information came my way that I wanted to share.

Author Terry Spear has a very useful post up at Red Room on the value of Reviews. What makes this post worth bookmarking is all the links she supplies to review sites. Check this post out.

Marcia James, PR consultant and author, who will be guest blogging with us for our March Madness event, is teaching her Guilt Free Promo Workshop at Savvy Authors this month. I took Marcia’s class and it was awesome. She has all kinds of tips and advice regarding self-promotion, a must for any author … Read More »
