Meet An Author Monday – Melissa Schroeder

Happy Memorial Day & a big thank you to all the men and women who proudly serve this country!

And without further ado, I gladly introduce Melissa Schroeder…

The Harmless Series

It all started with a title. I was sitting around early 2004 and I was thinking up titles. I am pretty good with them. If I can’t come up with a title, I worry about the book. Grace Under Pressure came to me first, then Grace. Then, I had a little idea. What about a book called A Little Harmless Sex? That was something that would grab attention, I … Read More »

La Llorona, an Aztec Legend?

In the dead of night, along the riverbanks, a woman weeps. Her cries of anguish scream of grief and despair. She walks alone, a ghostly figure dressed in white, her pale thin face surrounded by wild black hair. She beckons the traveler for help.

And then she pounces.

She drags the unwilling victim into the river and leads him to a watery grave.

Meet La Llorona, a legend throughout Mexico and the American Southwest. She is talked about in whispers for fear of bringing her retribution upon the speaker’s head. Mothers warn their children to be careful, to behave, for … Read More »

Wicked Wednesday – Daniel Craig

Have to admit that sometimes a man looks better in his prime than in his youth. This is true especially for the 42-year-old British actor who is one fine drink of wine, Daniel Craig.

Daniel Craig captured the unique qualities of the modern day 007. To me, he is what Bond should always have been, suave, sophisitcated, pensive, muscular and romantic, a man of iron will and high integrity.

I could totally lick him like a lollipop. OMG! They actually did make him into a delicious melt in your mouth icicle. YUM!!

He was scrumptious and action packed in Tomb Raider… Read More »

Meet An Author Monday – Sofia Quintero

If I told you that one question I frequently get as a novelist who teaches others who aspire to publish fiction, “How do you write sex scenes well?” I’d be lying.

On the contrary, that’s a question I wish aspiring writers would ask more often. I suspect that if I strictly limited my workshop curriculum to those elements of craft that they requested, I would never broach the matter. Yet that’s precisely why I make a point to devote as much time to writing sex scenes as I would to developing characters and creating plot.

I actually believe that sex … Read More »

Art on Heels

Pssst, I’ll let you in on a little secret. I adore shopping for new bags and shoes. Now I’m not a fashionista. I can’t tell a Gucci from a Versace from a McCartney and don’t bother asking me who designed Kate Middleton’s wedding dress. Already forgotten, though I did read the designer’s name somewhere.

For me fashion isn’t about dropping names. For me it’s about finding something that speaks to me, about me. I don’t mind quirky, a little loud or a little different. You’ll never be bored and you’ll never be boring. Take my word for it.

Here’s … Read More »

Wicked Wednesday – Johnny Depp

Oh that imfamous Jack Sparrow is back! Johnny Depp plays the indespensible character in the 4th installment of Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides.

No matter what zany character he is playing I absolutely adore him.

Johnny Depp appeared on the scene in 1987 with 21 Jump Street where he played an undercover cop working the school system.
Wish he was my hall monitor, I would have totally been running in the hallway with scissors!

Johnny gave a whole new meaning to bad boy in Donnie Brasco.

He is an elusive and reclusive creature. I can’t think of another … Read More »

Faeries In The Middle: Why We Should Keep Anthropomorphizing
Faery myths have persisted for centuries, long after Christianity eliminated the religions that gave rise to belief in the Fae. What makes these stories so enduring that we revise and retell them to each new generation? Why are we still writing stories about the Morrigan and her kin even though most of us no longer worship those long-lost gods?

If we set aside Christianity’s attempts to demonize the Fae — transforming them into demons or “demoted angels” who weren’t quite bad enough for Hell but weren’t good enough for Heaven — … Read More »

Spotlight: Night Magic by Jennifer Lyon

This is the third novel in Jennifer Lyon’s Wing Slayer series. I highly recommend you read the others first because I can’t stand reading series out of order and because they are all just as gripping as this one.

Lyon has created a world where witches are divided into earth witches (good) and demon witches (bad). The demon witches have formed an alliance with a powerful demon who is set on eliminating or turning all earth witches to the dark side.

Wing Slayers used to be guardians of earth witches but after a plan gone awry they are consumed to … Read More »

Wicked Wednesday – Ryan Reynolds

Hello my little green god of sexiness. Did I ever tell you my favorite color is green? Well, it is. Green is a calming color that sparks creativity and honesty.

So being honest, I have to say, Ryan Reynolds looks damn good in green. His latest movie, Green Lantern hits theatres next week. Saw the trailer and I love that he is not acting all big and bad but being his goofy self and bringing a persona to the character that I think will play well for the comic book hero. All that aside, I want to see him in … Read More »

Meet An Author Monday – Dara England

Something I often get asked is why I chose to go the indie route with my latest work after having been previously published in more traditional forms. There’s no short answer to this so I’m going to go with a long one. That’s right, get comfy because this girl is going to share her entire publishing background, such as it is.

In The Beginning …

After years of writing fiction in the hope of getting published “someday” I finally got up the nerve to start submitting my work. Only to small webzines and print magazines no one had ever heard … Read More »
