What is it about Vintage?

I don’t spend my time in second-hand shops hunting down vintage treasure. Face it, I probably wouldn’t know something was vintage unless it had a huge arrow pointing at it with Vintage in capital letters. Yeah, I’m that obtuse.

I’ve already written about The Vintage Traveler (www.thevintagetraveler.wordpress.com/). I’m not stuck on fashion, can’t sew worth anything, but I enjoy every one of the posts that end up in my mailbox. There’s history wrapped up in each post and I can’t get enough.

Here’s a catalog of Abercrombie & Fitch courtesy of The Vintage Traveler. If you want to see what’s inside the catalog, head on over by clicking on this link to the post: 1950s Play Hours. I love the bathing suits and the models aren’t all skinny!

The other day I discovered another vintage website that really put a smile on my face and took me back. It’s Vintage Ads (www.vintage-ads.livejournal.com/). This is another site you really have to check out. On the left sidebar you’ll see years starting at 1861 and running through 1991. For the heck of it I started clicking on years from my childhood. Up comes various magazine and TV ads from the time. I stumbled on a Farrah Fawcett car ad and another for Wella Balsam Shampoo. She sure was one popular Angel. Vintage Ads is a fun quick dip into history, a chance to go back in time and stir up some memories.

You don’t have to be a vinatge junkie to enjoy these sites. You do have to have sense of nostalgia and an appreciation of what they tell us about who we were, where we were, and how far we’ve traveled.
