The Power of a Reader

We have all heard that word of mouth is the best way to get people to read your book. bno where has this been more true than with Fifty Shades of Grey.

Don’t beleive me? Well, we have seen it with Twilight and Harry Potter but this is the first “Erotic” novel I have heard of that had this much buzz.

I got wind of this novel for the first time when a reader from Goodreads sent me her list of recommends and Fifty Shades trilogy was on her list. I read the review and had to check it out. I went to Goodreads and was blown away by the rave reviews by the readers and how much they loved this series.

Well, I have bought the kindle version, which is sitting on my virtual shelf. To my susrpirise, a few days later do I see an article on the internet talking about the phenom sales of this relativly new author and her series and the bidding war to buy the rights to publish her books in the US.

Word of mouth is still the most powerful tool in the toolbox for any author. RL James didn’t plan a huge marketing campaign, she didn’t go and blog tour till her fingers fell off. Nope. It was spread by “moms” and “dads” who are reading this book together to heat up their sex lives.

I had no idea America was that repressed, still I am all for anything that gets people reading Erotica & BDSM & Romance. So viva! the moms that are sharing the wealth.

Best of all is seeing talk show hosts getting embarrassed over reading excerpts from this naughty novel. Check out GMA talking about Flaying and porn for moms. :)
