Happy New Year!

I have a slew of resolutions this year:

1. Get in shape – hit the tread mill at least 30 mins. a day. (No so hard to do while reading a good book featuring a treadmill like Liz Fichera’s Craving Perfect)

2. Read more paranormals – lately I have been in the doldrums and I know it because I am not getting enough daily doses of vampires and werewolves (Must pick up Caridad Pineiro’s Lost series)

3. Have to eat healthier homecooked meals (Easily done by whipping up delicious Latin inspired meals from the HOT IN THE KITCHEN recipe book)… Read More »

Button Holed by Kylie Logan

If you’ve been paying attention to my blog you know that I’m an avid reader of cozy mysteries. Love them and am always on the lookout for new ones to entertain me.

Kylie Logan’s Button Holed is the first in a new series for writer Casey Daniels also known as Miranda Bliss. Some of you may be familiar with Casey’s Pepper Martin series (which I’ve read) or with her Cooking Class mystery series written under the name Bliss (which I’m going to have to check out). While the Pepper Martin series has a slight paranormal angle to it, the Button … Read More »

LGBT History – Christine d’Abo

This past month has been a fantastic journey with some great authors. Provacative and insightful, I have enjoyed the various viewpoints and their unique voices.

I will be ending LGBT History Month with one of may favorite authors — Christine d’Abo.

Christine d’Abo loves writing in the worlds of science fiction, BDSM and romance. By combining the elements of those genres into tales of adventure and love, Christine creates the types of stories she loves to read. Christine is currently published with Ellora’s Cave, Samhain Publishing, Cleis Press and Berkley.

When I first was introduced to Christine and her books, … Read More »

GLBT History – Josh Lanyon

When I began writing in the m/m genre (m/m, in my view, being somewhat distinct from gay fiction proper) it was dominated by women, often straight women, who generally came from a fan fiction background. In fact, one of the only gay men, certainly one of the most influential, was (and still is) the reviewer Teddy Pig. TP offered a rare and insightful perspective, and frequently brought up the fact that even if m/m fiction was a sub-genre of romance, it had a responsibility to address issues of importance to the gay community. Or at least not pretend that such … Read More »

LGBT History – S. Reese Herberth & Michelle Moore

Even if it should actually turn out to be just a phase, which might or might not be the case, it doesn’t matter. Who you are right now, and the things you desire right now, are absolutely fine and okay and much more normal than you could possibly imagine.”Hanne Blank

Most of our characters are comfortably bisexual. Not all, but I’d definitely say a majority. Tal, Vanya, and Kellen, from The Slipstream Con, are all bi. Ducks, from The Balance of Silence is bi, though people seem to lump him into the “gay for you” category … Read More »

LGBT History – Xakara

Bi Any Other Name

Greetings, Kittens!

Happy LGBTQ History Month! Hopefully you’ll have your choice of blogs chronicling the struggles and triumphs in the LGBTQ community over the next weeks, so you don’t need that here today. Instead, I thought I’d use this lovely opportunity Gabriella provided, to go back and give a little more depth on the terms I used on my last visit. (Xakara’s Blog on Writing from the Middle: Bi/Pan/Poly)

There’s some back and forth in the community over the use of the term Pansexual. Why a new term, when Bisexual would do? Now if … Read More »

LGBT History Month – Charlie Cochrane

I’m obsessed with WWI poets. To the extent that I have to smuggle any new books I buy (or borrow from the library) into the house in a plain brown wrapper or my daughters tell me off. I try to pretend they’re for research purposes (I write in the Edwardian/WWI era) but that’s stretching the truth. It’s the characters who fascinate me. Sassoon, Owen, Brooke, Graves, Gurney and the rest – I can lap up both their works and their life stories.

So where does this fit in with LGBT history? The simple answer is that Siegfried Sassoon was gay, … Read More »

Hispanic Heritage – Vanessa Libertad Garcia

“Dear Dios: A Cuban-American Movie”byVanessa Libertad Garcia

I once gave my feature screenplay Dear Dios, in one of its early draft stages, to a good friend for reading and critique as she had been working in entertainment for over a decade. The film follows an aspiring photojournalist with a lust for bi-women and malt liquor as she spirals out of control in the hipster club scene and turns bottom-of-the-barrel temp for an LA celebrity tabloid rag. The protagonist is a Cuban-American lesbian named “Dolores Amorosa Marti.” After much anticipation, the verdict came in; she loved it. Great news! … Read More »

Hispanic Heritage – Ashley Zurc Pereira

Thank you for having me. I’m so happy to get involved in celebrating my Latina roots amongst other creative writers.

Originally, I wanted to take this opportunity to talk about why we need more Hispanic Literature, whether it’s romance, literary, fantasy, or mystery. But you already know that. Then, the other day as I was browsing through Publisher’s Weekly, I came across an article that talked about how major Hispanics, such as Mario Lopez and Perez Hilton, will be releasing picture books. Congratulations to them. It’s nothing new that publishers are trying to capitalize on celebrities, but then what happens to … Read More »
